New Delhi: MPs of the Opposition INDIA bloc on Thursday uniquely protested outside the Parliament by wearing jackets with “Modi Adani Ek hai” stickers pasted on and raised slogans to reiterate their demand for a joint parliamentary probe (JPC) into the Adani issue.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who wore his trademark white T-shirt with a sticker, stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot initiate an investigation into Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, as it would effectively be a probe against himself.

Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with lawmakers from other opposition parties such as the RJD and the Left, participated in the protest.

Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi called for a parliamentary discussion on the indictment of Adani in a US court on charges of bribery and fraud, urging Prime Minister Modi to address the issue in the House.

The protest took place in front of the Makar Dwar steps of Parliament, not on the steps leading to it, following an advisory from the Lok Sabha Secretariat and Speaker Om Birla, who had raised concerns over the matter.

Later, the protesting MPs gathered in front of Samvidhan Sadan, raising slogans against Modi and Adani. The Lok Sabha Secretariat had issued an advisory on Tuesday, urging MPs not to hold protests in front of Parliament gates, citing concerns that such blockages could impact safety and security.

Opposition MPs had staged protests on the Makar Dwar steps on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

TMC skips INDIA bloc protest

The TMC has distanced itself from the protests against Adani. The Congress, along with some other opposition parties, has been calling for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe following the indictment of Adani and other company officials in a US court.

The Congress stated that Adani’s indictment “vindicates” its demand for a JPC investigation into the alleged “scams” involving the billionaire industrialist’s conglomerate. Gandhi has called for Adani’s immediate arrest.

The Adani Group has dismissed all allegations as “baseless.”
