Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to attend All India Conference of directors general and inspectors general of police (DGP/IGP). The event, being held at the State Convention Centre, Lok Seva Bhavan, started on November 29 and will conclude on December 1. Senior police officials from across the country, along with key government representatives, are participating in this meeting aimed at strengthening India’s internal security.

The three-day conference focuses on critical issues, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, coastal security, and narcotics. New criminal laws and strategies to improve policing and public safety are also being discussed. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the conference in enhancing the country’s security apparatus and fostering innovative approaches in policing.

The conference addresses key national security concerns such as terrorism and left-wing extremism. Coastal security, a vital aspect of safeguarding India’s vast coastline, is also a major focus. Discussions are aimed at refining professional practices in policing and ensuring the safety of citizens.

Amit Shah to attend conference

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior officials, including the National Security Advisor and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, will attend the conference. Heads of Central Police Organisations and DGPs of all states and union territories will also be present.

Since 2014, the annual DGP/IGP conference has been held in various parts of India to address region-specific security challenges. Previous venues include Guwahati, Hyderabad, the Rann of Kutch, Pune and Jaipur.
