‘Zinda rahungi to…’: Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur alleges torture

New Delhi: BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, on Thursday alleged torture by ATS and Congress. In a post on X, she wrote, “Zinda rahungi, to court aungi”, as she cited her deteriorating health condition.

The post comes after a special NIA court on Tuesday issued a bailable warrant against the former Lok Sabha MP in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, for failing to attend the proceedings. The warrant is `returnable’ by November 13 which means Thakur will have to appear before the court by then and get it cancelled.

In the post, she wrote in Hindi, “#Congress Ka Torture Not only ATS custody, but it became the cause of fatal pain for me throughout my life. Swelling in the brain, poor vision, poor hearing, imbalance in speech, swelling in the entire body due to steroids and neuro medicines, I am undergoing treatment in a hospital. If I remain alive, I will surely go to the court.” Along with the post, she has also posted a picture of herself, in which heavy swelling is visible on her face.

Bailable warrant issued in Malegaon blast case

The Special NIA Court in Mumbai has issued a bailable warrant to former MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur for failing to attend proceedings in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Special Judge AK Lahoti stated that her presence is essential as the final arguments in the case are ongoing. He set the bailable warrant at Rs 10,000, which must be returned by November 13, requiring Pragya Singh Thakur to appear in court by that date to have the warrant cancelled.

In March, during the hearing, Pragya Thakur’s lawyer had cited her poor health and asked for exemption from court appearance. Judge AK Lahoti had turned down her plea, and noted that Pragya Thakur had been specifically directed to appear before the court on March 11, 2024, along with a medical certificate. After this, in March, Pragya Singh Thakur and five other co-accused had appeared before the special NIA court in Mumbai.
