‘Have to stop somewhere’: Sharad Pawar, 83, hints at retirement from politics

Mumbai: NCP (SP) chief and Maharashtra politics giant Sharad Pawar on Tuesday hinted at retirement after the assembly elections in the state, saying he would have to think about contesting elections in the future and that he has to “stop somewhere”.

Speaking at a rally in Maharashtra’s Baramati, Pawar said he has contested 14 elections till now and now it’s time for him to think whether to again go to Rajya Sabha or not. “I have to stop somewhere,” the 83-year-old leader said.

The Pawar senior was campaigning for his grandnephew, NCP (SP) candidate Yugendra Pawar, who is set to challenge his uncle, Ajit Pawar, in the upcoming assembly elections on November 20.

Speaking at a gathering in Shirsuphal, Baramati, the NCP (SP) chief recalled that the contest for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat earlier this year was tough, as it involved a family rivalry. He noted that, just five months later, the people of the region would witness a similar scenario unfold.
