New Delhi: The International President of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Alok Kumar, on Monday condemned the attack on a Hindu temple by Khalistani supporters in Canada. He said that the Indian embassy there had organised a camp and the Canadian government was informed and requested for security at the event three days in advance. However, this request was ignored.
Kumar mentioned that on October 31, during the Diwali celebrations, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had said, “Indo-Canadians represent the best of Canada.”
He slammed the Canadian PM and said that Trudeau’s assurances about the safety of Hindus in Canada have proven to be hollow.
“We stand with the Hindu-Canadian community to ensure their safety so that they can practice their faith freely and with pride,” said Alok Kumar.
This is not the first such incident, as Hindu temples have been attacked in Greater Toronto, British Columbia, and Brampton in the past too.
Trudeau depending on Khalistani MPs support: Alok Kumar
Notably, Trudeau’s popularity in Canada has declined recently with his own MPs publicly calling for his resignation. Kumar said that Trudeau’s position is dependent on Khalistani-supporting MPs, which is why he openly supports them.
Kumar warned that the current Canadian government and Khalistani supporters should remember that the Hindu community too has the right to self-defense and will exercise it when necessary.
Khalistani supporters attack Hindus at temple in Canada
On Sunday, attacks happened at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and multiple videos on social media show attackers holding banners in support of Khalistan. The videos showed fist fights and people striking each other with poles on what appears to be the grounds near a Hindu Sabha Mandir temple.
The High Commission of India in Ottawa issued a strong statement condemning the recent attack on Brampton’s Hindu Sabha temple by “anti-India” elements. This incident disrupted a consular event co-organised by the Hindu Sabha Mandir and the Indian consulate.
