Mumbai Police move to extradite Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol after US alert

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough for Indian law enforcement, US authorities have notified the Mumbai Police about Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, being on American soil. It has prompted the Mumbai Police to initiate extradition proceedings for the 25-year-old, who faces serious charges linked to multiple high-profile criminal cases, including a shooting incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.

Last month, the Mumbai Police filed a petition in a special court to secure permission for extradition, formally expressing their intent to bring Anmol back to India to face the allegations, particularly those related to the Salman Khan case. On October 16, the police updated the court on their efforts to repatriate him, a report by Indian Express mentioned.

Bounty of Rs 10 lakh on Anmol Bishnoi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently placed a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on information leading to Anmol Bishnoi’s arrest. He is also an accused in the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot in Mumbai’s Bandra on October 12.

It is not clear whether Anmol is currently in US custody, but officials are tracking his possible location within the country. If extradition is granted, the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch, which issued the Red Corner Notice for Anmol, would take charge of his custody.

The alert regarding Anmol Bishnoi came amid broader concerns related to the Indian government’s allegations against Canadian authorities of harboring terror elements. Following India’s diplomatic tensions with Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police suggested that agents of the Indian government were collaborating with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a claim that India has vehemently denied as “preposterous”.
