New Delhi: South Africa crushed Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs in the second and final Test to complete a series whitewash over the hosts. The Proteas won the contest inside three days to seal a comprehensive 2-0 series win at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday (October 31).

The innings win was South Africa’s biggest win in Test cricket, surpassing the innings and 254 runs against the same opponent in Bloemfontein in 2017.

The series win boosted South Africa’s hopes of finishing in the top two of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 table and confirming a berth in the final at Lord’s next year.

The Aiden Markram-led team carried the momentum from a 7-wicket win in the first Test and produced an even better performance to register a massive win in the second Test.

After clean-sweeping Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team, the Proteas moved to the No. 4 position in the WTC 2023-25 points table boasting 54.17 PCT%.

In the process, the Proteas also ended their drought in Asia, winning a series for the first time since August 2014.

Bangladesh have suffered their second successive series whitewash following their 0-2 defeat in India last month.
