With a financial outlay of Rs 70,125 crore, the scheme will facilitate the construction of 62,500 kilometres of new roads, to provide connectivity to 25,000 habitations that are not connected to any roads. In addition to road construction the scheme will also focus on the building and upgrading of bridges.

Under PMGSY-IV, the coverage will extend to 25,000 habitations with populations of 500 or more in plain areas and 250 or more in the North Eastern and Hill States/UTs. The scheme will also address habitations in special category areas such as Tribal Schedule V regions, aspirational districts and blocks, desert areas, and Left Wing Extremism affected districts, based on the 2011 Census.

To benefit local communities by improving access to vital services and opportunities

The primary benefits of the scheme include providing all-weather road connectivity to these remote and previously unconnected habitations. The introduction of these roads is expected to serve as a catalyst for socio-economic development, connecting rural areas with essential services such as educational institutions, health facilities and market centres. This enhanced connectivity is anticipated to greatly benefit local communities by improving access to vital services and opportunities.

PMGSY-IV will also incorporate advanced construction practices and technologies, including Cold Mix Technology, the use of waste plastic, panelled cement concrete, cell-filled concrete, full-depth reclamation, and sustainable materials such as fly ash and steel slag.

Additionally, the planning and alignment of the road network under this scheme will be managed through the PM Gati Shakti portal. This digital tool will assist in the preparation of detailed project reports and support efficient execution of the project.
