Massive Diwali Exodus: 2.31 Lakh passengers travel from Chennai, 4,059 buses operated

Chennai: As Diwali festivities commenced, a staggering 2,31,363 passengers traveled from Chennai to their hometowns on October 29 alone, marking a significant surge in seasonal migration. To cater to this massive demand, the Tamil Nadu Government Transport Department deployed 4,059 buses, comprising 1,967 special buses and 2,092 regular buses.

According to officials, the transport department ensured seamless travel for passengers, with no major issues reported despite the overwhelming numbers. Managing Director R. Mohan revealed details of bus operations from three key terminals: Chennai Koyambedu Bus Stand, Chennai Madhavaram Bus Stand, and Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus.

To facilitate smooth travel, the Government Express Transport Corporation operated an extensive network of buses. Between October 28 and 30, the corporation will run: – 11,176 buses from Chennai, including 4,900 special buses and 2,092 regular services and 14,086 buses from major cities statewide, incorporating 2,910 special buses and regular services.

Southern Railways add extra coaches for Diwali rush

In a parallel development, to manage the holiday rush, Southern Railway has added extra coaches to 32 popular trains and introduced special trains for Deepavali.
