New Delhi: Toyota recently celebrated a major production milestone, with its 5 millionth vehicle rolling off the assembly line in the UK. This landmark achievement was marked by the production of a Corolla GR Sport Hatchback hybrid at Toyota’s Burnaston facility in Derbyshire, a site operational since 1989. For over three decades, the plant has not only played a vital role in Toyota’s UK production but has also contributed significantly to the region’s automotive sector.

Toyota’s Burnaston facility has been dedicated exclusively to hybrid vehicle production, making it the company’s first plant outside Japan to focus on hybrid technology. As the demand for eco-friendly transportation continues to rise, the Burnaston facility’s production of hybrid-only models aligns with Toyota’s mission to advance sustainability in global markets.

Darius Mikolajczak, Managing Director at the Burnaston plant, spoke about the significance of this milestone: “This milestone represents more than just a numerical achievement. It reflects our contribution to the economy and our commitment to making ever-better cars, embracing new technologies, and building strong relationships with our suppliers, partners, and local communities.” This accomplishment, he noted, showcases the dedication of Toyota’s team members—both past and present—who have contributed to Burnaston’s legacy of innovation and quality.
