Gurugram: The situation of pollution in Delhi may worsen in Diwali due the use of firecrackers in Gurugram. The Gurugram authority has banned the use of non-green firecrackers but the traditional firecrackers are reaching the city through different ways.
According a report by Hindustan times, there are many sellers in the city who were found selling traditional firecrackers by sticking green labels on them. Due to this, even the customers who do not wish to use traditional firecrackers would use them unknowingly. As per the rules by local administration, the green crackers can be used on Diwali and Gurupurab between 8 pm to 10 pm. For Christmas the timing would be 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.
Sale reaches Rs four lakh per day
The crackers from the nearby areas are smuggled to the national capital through private vehicles. The Delhi Police stated that it is not possible for them to check each and every vehicle but they are carrying out random checks. As per the report, Ashok Kumar, a wholesale firecracker trader in Gadoli informed that the sale of firecrackers has doubled compared to the last year ahead of Diwali. The sales of firecrackers has reached Rs four lakh per day. Ever since the ban in Delhi, customers come here for purchasing firecrackers during Diwali. One of the biggest firecracker market which was in Sadar Bazar, Delhi, before the ban has now been shifted here.
Home delivery of firecrackers
Another firecracker trader, Arjun Yadav, said, they are runnig home delivery services to provide crackers to people of nearby district including Delhi. They deliver orders above Rs 30,000, only after an advance payment of 5000 is made. For this purpose they have employed delivery boys who travel to other places by train, buses and private vehicles.
According to many experts the ban on firecrackers in Delhi can be effective only if there is a uniform ban across the country. Unless this happens there will always be cross border supply of firecrackers in Delhi. The firecrackers including green firecrackers are banned in the national capital since 2020.
