CJI Chandrachud told journalists that his doctor had advised him to avoid going out in the morning as it was better for him to stay inside than contract respiratory ailments.

The CJI, who will be demitting office on November 10, said this in an informal interaction with journalists in the Supreme Court.

Have stopped stepping out for a morning walk from today, CJI Chandrachud told journalists at Supreme Court

CJI Chandrachud, while referring to rising levels of air pollution in the national capital, said that he has stopped stepping out for a morning walk from today.

“I have stopped going out for a morning walk from today (October 24). I usually go for a morning walk at around 4-4.15 am,” CJI Chandrachud said.

Delhi’s air quality has worsened in last few days and has slipped into very poor category. Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city recorded at various places during the last few days showed several areas falling into the very poor air quality.

The Delhi Government has announced a series of measures to control the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, including ban on firecrackers. Second stage of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures have also been enforced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to control air pollution.

What did authorities decide in a DDMA meeting held on Thursday?

Authorities in the city on Thursday decided in a Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting that dust removal and mitigation on a mission mode will be the focus area of the multiple agencies that are engaged with the implementation of anti-pollution measures in the national capital. Gopal Rai, Delhi Environment Minister, said after the meeting that that the timings of the government offices in the city may be changed to control pollution.

“There was discussion on changing the timings of both central and state government offices in Delhi to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads at the same time,” he said in a statement.

Rai also said that a request has been made by the Delhi Government to Lieutenant Governor (LG) to discuss with the Centre the possibility of conducting artificial rain in Delhi on a pilot basis, so that action can be taken in emergency situations and the LG has assured of the same, news agency PTI reported.
