Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday officiated the mass wedding of 31 couples at the historic Darshaneeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. The newlyweds received gifts worth Rs 60,000, including a 4-gram gold thali, bed, mattress, and other essentials.
Speaking on the occasion, Stalin expressed his delight in participating in charity events, revealing that he has attended more such programs than foreign trips since taking office. He praised Minister Shekharbabu’s efforts in organizing the mass wedding.
Tamil Nadu’s Temple Land Restoration: 7,609 Acres Recovered, 1,74,894 Acres Protected
Stalin highlighted his government’s achievements in temple conservation, including the renovation of 2,226 temples and restoration of 10,638 temples. He noted that Rs 1,103 crore in donations has enabled 9,163 ongoing temple projects. Additionally, 7,609 acres of temple land, valued at Rs 6,792 crore, have been reclaimed, and 1,74,894 acres of land have been measured and protected.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of conserving 1,000-year-old temples, utilizing interest earned from deposited funds for their maintenance. Stalin’s efforts demonstrate his commitment to preserving Tamil Nadu’s cultural heritage and supporting its people.
This mass wedding initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to promote social welfare and support economically disadvantaged couples. With today’s event, Stalin has reaffirmed his government’s dedication to the well-being of its citizens and the preservation of Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural legacy.
