New Delhi: Twelve people, including eight children, lost their lives in a collision between a bus and a tempo in the Dholpur district of Rajasthan on Saturday night. The incident happened near Sumipur when a speeding sleeper coach, travelling from Gwalior to Jaipur, collided with the tempo.

Among the deceased were a couple and their children, identified as Irfan alias Bunty (38), his wife Julie (34), daughter Asma (14), son Salman (8), as well as Parveen (32), Zareena (35), Saqir (6), Sanif (9), Ajaan (5), Aashiyaana (10), Sufi (7), and Danish (10).

PM announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the grieving families, particularly for the young children who lost their lives in the accident. In a statement, he said, “The accident in Dholpur, Rajasthan, is heart-wrenching. My thoughts are with the bereaved families, especially those who lost young children. May God grant them the strength to bear this immense pain. I also wish a speedy recovery to the injured. The local administration, under the supervision of the state government, is providing all possible assistance to the victims.”

The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will receive Rs 50,000.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident, and efforts are being made to provide support to the affected families.
