Noida: In the case of ‘digital rape,’ where a three-year-old girl studying in a prestigious school in Noida, was molested by a staffer, the police arrested the main accused who is still in jail. A teacher and school security supervisor who were also arrested in the case, on the charges of suppressing the incident got bail on Friday.
In the incident, the girl studying in a junior wing of a private school in Noida was ‘digitally raped’ by a staffer named Nityanand of the same school. When the teacher was informed about the incident, she asked the girl to not tell anything about the incident to her family members. After the girl’s family members noticed her unusual behavior they talked to her and came to know about the incident on October 9.
Next day, on October 10, the family members filed a complaint in Sector-20 police station. The police arrested and jailed the main accused Nityanand, After further investigation, the girl’s teacher Madhu and school office administrator Daya Mahato were arrested by the police. According to police both played a role in hiding the incident.
The police present both the accused in the Gautam Buddha Nagar Court, where they got released on bail. The main accused Nityanand is still in jail. After the release, there was a huge protest outside the school by parents who accused the administration of recklessness and heinous crime of suppressing the incident.
Committee formed by DM to investigate the matter
The District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Manish Verma has constituted a committee to further investigate the matter. The committee includes District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), Block Educational Officer (BEO), City Magistrate and Provisional Officer. The committee will investigate the entire matter and maintain coordination between parents and school administration. It will also inspect safety standards of children in school.
What is ‘digital rape?’
According to Section 3 of the POCSO Act, the act of inserting any object or a part of the body, except the penis, into the vagina, urethra or anus of the child or makes the child do it, will be considered digital rape. The law for digital rape came into effect after 2012, before which it was considered molestation instead of rape.
