New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has achieved a major milestone, with its Manesar plant rolling out its 10 millionth vehicle, a Brezza compact SUV. This accomplishment comes 18 years after the plant began operations in October 2006, making it the fastest Suzuki automobile manufacturing facility globally to reach this figure. This milestone is a testament to Maruti Suzuki’s strong presence in the Indian market and its commitment to the country’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd praised the achievement, stating, “Crossing the 1 crore cumulative production mark at our Manesar facility is a testament to India’s manufacturing capability and our commitment to the larger national goal of ‘Make in India’.” He emphasised the importance of local manufacturing, highlighting that Maruti Suzuki has played a crucial role in establishing a robust supply chain in India, contributing significantly to the economy by creating direct and indirect employment for millions.

About the Manesar Plant

The Manesar plant is spread across 600 acres and has been a central hub of Maruti Suzuki’s production capabilities. Over the years, it has become a key contributor to the company’s domestic and international success. The plant manufactures various popular models, including the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz, Dzire, Wagon R, S-Presso, and Celerio. These models not only cater to the Indian market but are also exported to regions like Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and neighbouring Asian countries, boosting India’s automotive export sector.

Takeuchi also underlined the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding local manufacturing efforts. By producing vehicles within India, Maruti Suzuki has developed a large-scale supply chain that has led to growth in various sectors of the Indian economy. The automaker’s efforts have also aligned with the broader ‘Make in India’ initiative, which seeks to promote manufacturing and self-reliance in the country.

As of April 2024, Maruti Suzuki’s total production capacity across its plants has reached approximately 2.35 million units per annum. This significant capacity reflects the company’s long-standing role in driving the growth of India’s automotive industry. Since its inception, Maruti Suzuki has produced over 31.1 million vehicles, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the global automobile market.

Since the 1980s, Maruti Suzuki has played an important role in developing India’s passenger car market. Initially established as a joint venture between Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation and the Indian government, the company has become a symbol of innovation, reliability, and growth.
