Mumbai: A city court on Tuesday (October 15) remanded the fourth accused – Harishkumar Nisad – to police custody till October 21 in the killing of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique on October 12 in city’s Bandra area.
Nishad is a scrap dealer in Pune and was arrested earlier in the day from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.
Siddique was waylaid by three persons just outside the office of his son Zeeshan Siddique, an MLA, and shot at on October 12. He was rushed to city’s Lilavati Hospital where he was declared dead.
Nishad was also part of the conspiracy to kill, police told court
The prosecution, while seeking police custody, told the court that Nishad was also part of the conspiracy to kill the former Maharashtra minister and had provided financial help for the operation and the police needed to find details of the financial transactions and who sponsored them, news agency PTI reported.
The police earlier arrested alleged shooters – Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), and “co-conspirator” Pravin Lonkar. Shivkumar Gautam, another suspected shooter who also hails from Bahraich, is still on the run.
Court on Monday remanded accused Pravin Lonkar to police custody till October 21
A court had yesterday remanded, Pravin Lonkar, who was arrested from Pune on Sunday in connection with the murder of Siddique, to police custody till October 21. Pravin Lonkar is accused of enlisting two of the three alleged shooters who opened fire at Siddique in city’s Bandra area on October 12. As per the police, Pravin Lonkar’s brother Shubham Lonkar is allegedly associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Police sought his custody for his interrogation to unearth the conspiracy behind the killing of Siddique.

Earlier, the court had remanded two arrested shooters – Gurmail Baljit Singh (23) and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), residents of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh respectively, to police custody till October 21.
