He also highlighted the BJP’s historic win in Haryana, marking the party’s third consecutive victory, and expressed gratitude to voters for their support. Turning his attention to Jammu and Kashmir, Modi emphasized the significance of the peaceful conduct of elections in the region, which had not seen such calm for decades.

‘Victory for Constitution, democracy’

“Peaceful voting was held, results were declared. This is a victory for the Constitution, for democracy. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have given more seats to the National Conference and its allies. I send them my best wishes as well. J&K election results

The BJP secured victory in 29 seats, four more than its 2014 tally, with a vote share of 25.64%. The National Conference, on the other hand, garnered 23.43% of the vote, while Congress lagged behind with 11.97%. National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah announced that his son and party Vice President, Omar Abdullah, would become the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, Omar Abdullah clarified that the decision would ultimately be made by the party’s MLAs and the alliance partners. Calling the election outcome a rejection of the removal of Article 370, Farooq Abdullah expressed hope that the prime minister would keep his promise to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood soon.
