New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday led the nation in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a landmark initiative launched by his government in 2014 to transform India’s sanitation landscape, during a special program at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The event, coinciding with the 155th Gandhi Jayanti, highlighted the mission’s achievements and laid out ambitious new goals for the future.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi emphasised the ongoing progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission, highlighting the inauguration of new projects worth over 10,000 crores. “On this significant juncture,” he stated, “Cleanliness projects worth Rs 10000 crores have been inaugurated. As part of Mission Amrut, water and sewage treatment plants will be set up in various cities. Be it work related to Namami Gange or the ‘Govardhan’ plant for the production of biogas from garbage, all this will take the Swacch Bharat Mission to new heights…”

The event showcased the remarkable transformation achieved under the Swachh Bharat Mission, celebrating the decade-long success of this mass movement for cleanliness. It also highlighted the recent “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, which further strengthened the nationwide sanitation efforts.

During the programme, PM Modi launched and laid the foundation stone for several projects related to sanitation and cleanliness, worth over nine thousand six hundred crore rupees.

“1000 years from now, when studies will be carried out about India of the 21st century, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan will be remembered. In this century, Swachh Bharat is the world’s biggest and the most successful people’s resolution led by people and joined in by people,” he said.

PM Modi inaugurated a wide range of projects, worth over 10,000 crores, further bolstering the Swachh Bharat Mission’s impact. This included:

Over 6800 crore rupees for projects aimed at enhancing urban water and sewage systems under AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0

Over 1550 crore rupees for projects focused on improving water quality and waste management in Ganga basin areas under the National Mission for Clean Ganga

Over 1332 crore rupees for 15 Compressed Biogas Plant projects under the GOBARdhan Scheme
