New Delhi: Every day, in Meghalaya, the Shillong Teer lottery game is held. Based on archery, this lottery game is played at Shillong Polo Stadium. The organiser of this lottery game is Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association (KHASA).
One of the lottery games which is legal in India, the Shillong Teer is governed by the rules framed under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act. The player who shoots most number of arrows or ‘teers’ at the given target emerged as the winner.
Across the state of Meghalaya, there are as many as 5,000 designated ticket counters. At these ticket counters, tickets of this lottery game are sold. As a rule of the game, every player or participant is given 50 arrows. Out of these 50 arrows, 30 arrows have to be hit at the target in the first round and 20 in the second round. The player who shoots the maximum number of arrows at the target is declared the winner in the game. It is only in 13 Indian states that lottery game is legal. Apart from Meghalaya, lottery game has got legal stamp in Goa, Manipur, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.
