Dehradun: In Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, a woman’s body was exhumed from her grave after eight days of her death to investigate the reasons of her death. Following a complaint from her mother, alleging murder by her in-laws, this exhumation took place on Wednesday.

According to the Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ajai Singh, “No visible injuries were found in postmortem examination but viscera samples were preserved for forensic analysis. After the postmortem, the body was reburied in the presence of family members.” Furthermore, the investigation is on to determine the cause of death and any potential criminal charges, he said.

A woman named Farah died under suspicious circumstances

According to the police, this case is from Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun, where a woman named Farah died under suspicious circumstances on September 18, after which the in-laws informed the woman’s parents that the reason for her death was suicide by consuming poison. Her in-laws also performed her last rites without informing the police. 29-year-old Farah, a resident of Bijnor, was married to Salim of Dehradun 13 years ago. A few days after the marriage, Salim went to Saudi for a job and used to visit occasionally. When Farah died, her husband Salim was in Saudi, who reached Dehradun the next day after receiving the news of her death.

Deceased woman’s mother complained to the police

After Farah’s death, someone from neighbourhood called her parental family and informed them about injury marks on Farah’s body after her death while according to her in-laws, the woman committed suicide by consuming poison. On this information, Farah’s mother registered a complaint in Vasant Vihar police station. Following the legal procedures and under the supervision of a heavy police force and magistrate, Farah’s body was exhumed from the grave for further examination.

The body was handed over to the family

After postmortem, Farah’s body was handed over to her family for reburial. During this process, her in-laws as well as the parents were also present. The appointed magistrate Surendra Singh Dev informed that the body was sent for postmortem amid complete videography. The postmortem will be conducted by a panel of doctors so that the real cause of Farah’s death can be revealed and Farah as well as the family can get justice. At present, the police are also waiting for the postmortem report.
