Bengaluru: Authorities imposed prohibitory orders in Mandya district of Karnataka as tension prevailed in the area after violent clashes on Wednesday night. Reports say the clashes broke out after stones were pelted at a Ganpati procession near a mosque in Nagamangala town of the district.

According to police, as the clashes and violence spread, group of miscreants set shops on fire in the main market area; two policemen were also injured during the violence.

“I have no information related to the machete or other weapons used in the clash. Investigation is underway. We are verifying the reasons for the instigation, our officers are on duty. We have detained a few people and a search is going on. Restriction orders will continue,” said MB Boralingaiah, South Division IGP.

Media reports say miscreants hurled stones on the Ganpati procession near a mosque as it reached the main road in Nagamangala.

Later, a group of Hindu resident protested at the police station demanding action agaisnt the accused involved in the incident. As per the latest reports, the police have imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
