On Tuesday early morning forest officials involved in ‘Operation Bhediya’ got a major breakthrough after they managed to cage the fifth wolf after days on massive search. According to reports, this wolf was captured with the help of pugmark technique near Ghaghra river.

“Now the pack’s last wolf, who is lame, is left. It can be alpha wolf (leader of the pack). Till it is caught, the problem might persist. It is hoped that it will also be caught soon,” said Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh.

On Monday night, forest officials discovered wolf footprints in the area. Since nighttime operations were not feasible, four forest department teams arrived in the morning to cordon off the area.

The wolf, trying to escape, was captured in a net set by the forest department. With the help of local villagers, the team successfully secured and caged the wolf, said the divisional forest officer Singh. The forest officials have been trying to cage the two wolves since August 29, when the fourth wolf was apprehended.
