Bahraich: In a fresh wolf attack, an eight-year-old boy was injured after being attacked by the animal in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. The boy was attacked by the wolf while he was playing outside his house at the Golwa village in Mahsi tehsil of the district on Thursday. The boy was admitted to a government hospital with several injury marks on his body and some on his face.

Panic has gripped the residents of the Uttar Pradesh’s district who have been living in fear following a series of attacks by a pack of wolves. The district has been witnessing wolf attacks on children and humans since March. The attacks increased from mid July. In the last two months, eight people, including seven children, were killed in wolf attacks while more than 30 people were left injured.

Fresh wolf attack in Bahraich

The latest attack took place on Thursday evening. The child’s mother said that the wolf attacked her son and injured him when he was playing near the door of their house. On being knocked down by the wolf, the child started shouting. Upon hearing his scream, people gathered there and the wolf left the child and ran away.

Sanjay Khatri, the principal of the local medical college where the child was admitted, said that the wolf attacked the boy from behind. “The child has suffered super facial injuries on the left side of his cheek and neck, and has been given two stitches. The child’s condition is out of danger,” Khatri was quoted as saying by PTI.

Massive hunt to catch man-eater wolves

Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been launched to catch the wolves that have been terrorising the district. To capture the wolves, the forest department has been using thermal drones and thermos-sensor cameras. The forest department has formed six teams to catch the man-eating wolves. Besides, a team of nine shooters along with 165 officers have been carrying out searches round the clock. A team of experts from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun is also involved in the operation.
