It is believed that though the administration, aided by the forest department has managed to catch 4 of these wolves, still the real man-eating animal is on the loose. This is the reason that attacks on humans are continuing unabated.

Need to have stricter vigilance: Experts

Experts believe that the real man-eater wolves have still not been trapped. They advised the administration and the forest department officials to increase vigilance and show better coordination in catching the wolves, at the earliest. Both departments need to buckle up, they added.

Now the question being asked repeatedly is, “Why do wolves become man-eaters in the first place?” Is it because their numbers are increasing or are there other factors involved?

An expert was quoted as saying that wolves are shy animals. They attack humans only when there living space is affected by either flooding or water accumulation due to other reasons. This leads them to seek shelter outside and when they move out, and if they see a human child, their attacking intentions increase rapidly. Not only that if a human kills even one of the wolves of their pack, they tend to attack them. According to some experts, when an adult wolf kills a human, he first eats that meat. Then it goes to its children and vomits the meat out and they have it. In this way, even smaller wolves get into a habit of eating human meat.

Villagers to spend night inside government schools in UP as wolf attacks rise

Following the increasing attacks on humans by the pack of wolves, the administration is coming up with ways to protect people, especially those whose houses lie near the fields. The UP administration has said that the villagers whose houses are close to the sugarcane fields, will spend the night in government schools.

The District Magistrate, Monika Rani has given clear instructions to make these schools usable for the villagers. A total of 93 schools spread across 77 village panchayats have been earmarked to be converted into residential places for villagers. UP Ministers Dr Sanjay Kumar Nishad and Arun Kumar Saxena held a meeting with the concerned bureaucrats regarding the matter.

The decision to shift people living near the sugarcane fields comes as it has been noticed that most of the attacks on humans by these wolves has been in houses near these fields. At least 100 villages of Hardi and Khairighat are reeling under the fear of these man-eaters.

The DM said that every school which will be accommodating the villagers has been equipped with 20 beds, bedsheets, pillows, mosquito nets and lights. Security arrangements have also been made, she added.
