New Delhi: ACP Lalit Mohan Negi, known for his anti-terror operations, has bid farewell to the Delhi Police after a 35-year journey with the police department.
While jurisdiction is a cornerstone of the Delhi Police, Negi’s operations often transcended geographical boundaries. His expertise extended beyond the city’s limits, encompassing the complex dynamics of criminal networks in Kashmir, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. He was among the first to receive intel about a suicide bombing at the residence of LeT founder Hafiz Saeed in Lahore in 2021, showcasing his vast network and exceptional intelligence-gathering capabilities.
Negi, who began and concluded his career in Delhi’s elite Special Cell, is credited with 47 eliminations in 33 encounters, including over a dozen Pakistani terrorists. He was a master strategist, a troubleshooter, and a true rescuer, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and superiors alike. His network of informers was unparalleled, allowing him to generate crucial leads in high-profile cases, whether it be a local hold-up or a terrorist strike.
During his career, Negi faced threats to his own life prompting him to remain vigilant and his weapon constantly by his side. He has been a part of many crucial and successful operations of the Delhi Police. “A few years ago, a south Delhi gangster had sworn to eliminate Negi. The notorious criminal was later killed in an encounter in UP,” Negi’s team member was quoted saying by The Times of India.
Negi’s journey from a village in Pauri Garhwal to becoming a revered figure in the Delhi Police started as a sub-inspector in June 1989 after he graduated from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. After 9 years of service in the Delhi police, Negi joined the special cell in 1998.
