Ujjain: In a unique attempt a total of 1,500 Shiva devotees will play the damru in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain. This will be an attempt to create a world record of the largest number of people playing the damru together. The event is being organised in the holy month of ‘sawan’ on a Monday, which is considered to be a very pious occasion for the devotees of Lord Shiva.
Where will the devotees play damru?
The damru artists will play the damru just before the special ride of Baba Mahakaal starts in the holy city of Ujjain. The record will be attempted at the Shakti Path in the city, according to reports.
The timing fixed for the event is 12 pm sharp. According to people in the know of the programme, a total of 1,500 artists will play the ‘damru’ for a good 10 minutes at the designated place, in an attempt to create a world record. In order to get this event registered in Guinness World Records, a special team has been called in, who will be responsible for recording the entire event, so that it can be added in record books.
Importance of Sawan
The event in Ujjain is being organised in the holy month of Sawan. This month is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Hundreds of devotees throng the Shiva temples across the country and many people also walk up to the Ganges river and bring holy water from there to offer to the Lord. These people are known as ‘kanwariyas’.
On this occasion, several ‘yatras’ and ‘jhakis’ are also taken out by the people showing the different life events of Lord Shiva. It is during one such event in Ujjain that this ‘damru’ playing record is being attempted.
