The local bodies’ elections are a challenge for the Congress

On the contrary, the Congress has also given its focus on the preparations for the local bodies’ elections. Following the Congress party’s defeat in the Kedarnath by-poll, the party is taking the upcoming local bodies’ elections as a challenge for it to revive its old base across the state.

The Congress could not perform well in the 2018 local bodies’ elections

In the local bodies’ elections which were held in 2018, the Congress could not perform on the expected lines. Out of the total 11 Municipal Corporations, the party’s two candidates for the post of Mayor could be elected. The party’s 18 candidates were elected for the post of chairman of different municipalities.

Former minister Shurvir Singh Sajwan has been made in-charge of the Dehradun district. While the party has selected former AICC secretary Prakash Joshi as its in-charge of the Haridwar district, the party’s state vice president Suryakant Dhasmana will ensure proper preparations for the local bodies’ elections in Uttarkashi district.

The party MLA Madan Vishta, former minister Surendra Singh Negi, former minister Mantri Prasad Naithani and former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola have been made in-charge of Chamoli, Tehri, Rudraprayag, and Pauri respectively.
