Kolkata: Amid deadlock with agitating doctors, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made an unplanned visit to the protest site in Kolkata on Saturday. The medics have staged a sit-in outside Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the state Health Department, since Tuesday over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with a host of demands, including better security at state-run hospitals and the removal of top officials.

Interacting with the protesting doctors, the Chief Minister said, “I assure you that I will study your demands, take action if someone is found guilty…I came to meet you as your ‘didi’ not as Chief Minister” This is a developing story…
