New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday and told him that India will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.
Taking to X, Jaishankar wrote, “Deeply appreciate US commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism. Underlined India’s targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism. Will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.”

Rubio called up S Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and urged them to immediately de-escalate the tensions.
US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, “Secretary Marco Rubio spoke today with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The Secretary emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation.” During the calls, Rubio said that US backs direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and called for both sides to continue efforts to enhance communication channels.
On Thursday night, Pakistan fired drones and missiles, targeting Indian cities, including Jammu, Pathankot and Jaisalmer.
In a post on X on Thursday, Ministry of Defence said military stations at Jammu, Pathankot & Udhampur were targeted by Pakistani-origin #drones and missiles along the International Border in J&K today.
“The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). No casualties or material losses were reported.”
The post added that India was fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people.
