New Delhi: AIMIM chief Assaududdin Owaisi said that the Waqf (Amendment) Act is an internal fight and currently the opposition will stand with the Union Government as the tensions escalate against Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
On April 20, Owaisi vowed to continue the protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which was passed in the Parliament on April 4. He held a massive public meet at Darussalam, the AIMIM headquarter in Hyderabad. Owaisi specifically mentioned that they will not ‘bow their heads’ and the fight will continue.
The comments came just a few days before the deadly Pahalgam terror attack took place in the Valley, claiming the lives of 26 people, most of them were tourists, including a Nepal citizen.
Since then Owaisi has been vociferously critical of Pakistan, who is accused of supporting and sponsoring terror outfits. The Hyderabad MP also hailed the Operation Sindoor, asking the complete demolition of terror infrastructure in Pakistan.
While Owaisi has asserted that their position against the Waqf legislation remains firm, he prioritised the security of the country.
“About the Waqf law, our position remains the same. We (our party) feel that it is a black law framed against the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. We will continue our protests and legal battle against it,” Owaisi told The Indian Express.
“But that (Waqf law) is an internal matter of my country. When an external power threatens the security of the country, we have to rise above our political affiliations. Our country has been attacked and we have to stand up for the country,” he added.
Owaisi said that his comments are not made from any kind of pressure or to garner any praise, but just the right to speak up for the country in the tough times like a terrorism attack.
