Why Does Google Offer Free Meals to Employees? Sundar Pichai Reveals

Google has always been famous for its policies and the comfort that it offers to its employees, whether it is about free meal passes, health insurance or flexible remote working hours. In a recent interview with Bloomberg’s The David Rubenstein Show, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai shed light on the real reason behind the free meals for their employees. While confirming that the tech giant spends huge on its free meal policy, Sundar Pichai revealed that it is not just perks for the employees, but instead an investment into creativity!

While debugging the myth about free meals just as the perks of employees, Pichai revealed during the interview that Google Office have more benefits. According to him, these meals let employees eat together and connect which brings several ideas. “I can recall several times, when I was working at Google early on, being in cafes, meeting someone else, talking and getting excited about something. So, it sparks creativity, it creates community,” he added. Hence, he believes that the benefit that comes out of the free meal policy far dwarfs the costs associated with it.

The interview further revealed some interesting facts behind Google’s hiring. David Rubenstein asked about how many candidates apply for a job at Google every year. While being candid, Sundar Pichai revealed that the tech giant hires top talent across the globe every year with a steep 90 per cent of job candidates accepting offers.

While asking on behalf of the job applicants, David Rubenstein asked him about what’s the best way to get a job at Google. In reply to that, Pichai replied that it depends on the job profile. For example, for an engineering position at Google, the tech giant is looking for a highly skilled programmer who is ready to adapt to new challenges with time.
