Learn about bile

In Ayurveda, there are three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. All three play an important role in the formation and balance of the body. Pitta controls the hormones and enzymes produced in the body. It is responsible for digestion and metabolism. Things like body temperature, digestive fire (works to digest food and absorb its nutrients) are controlled by bile. It helps in keeping the skin healthy and glowing. Apart from this, bile also affects mental health related functions such as intelligence, knowledge, decision, self-confidence. Digestion is affected due to bile imbalance in the body. When bile is imbalanced, it weakens the digestive power, which can also cause problems related to indigestion and phlegm. There are only five types of bile in the body.

1. Pachaka Pitta – This bile promotes digestion, which helps in digesting and absorbing food.

2. Rajjaka Pitta – This bile is associated with the production and circulation of blood.

3. Sadhaka Pitta – It is also associated with mental ability and emotions. This allows us to complete the work properly. Satisfaction and enthusiasm are promoted.

4. Alochak Pitta – This bile helps in keeping the eyes healthy.

5. Bhraajak Pitta – This bile works to bring body temperature and glow on the skin.

Causes of increased bile

There can be many reasons for the increase of bile. It can increase naturally in young age. The reason for this is the consumption of more spicy, bitter, oily food and fried food. Apart from this, consuming sour and fermented foods like many things, vinegar, sour cream, alcoholic beverages and fermented beverages in excess is also a reason for this. Dry vegetables, foods with high salt, not eating at a fixed time, indigestion, citric and acidic food, curd, buttermilk, cream boiled milk, cow and katwara fish, sheep and goat meat especially increase bile.

Apart from food, there are other reasons too. Emotional disturbance and stress such as getting angry, depression, constantly taking pressure for something, heat and fatigue can also cause the increase of Pitta dosha in the body. Staying in excessive heat and sunlight, as well as sudden changes in weather, can lead to an increase in Pitta dosha.

Symptoms of increased Pitta dosha

Many types of changes are seen in the body due to increase in Pitta dosha. Symptoms like fatigue, weakness, increase in body temperature and feeling of excessive heat are seen in it. Apart from this, skin-related problems can also occur, in which symptoms like swelling in the skin, rashes, acne, ulcers, bad breath, body odor, sore throat, dizziness, fainting, yellowing of skin, urine, nails and eyes can be seen when Pitta increases. Mental health-related symptoms like anger, lack of patience, irritability and cursing oneself can also be seen.

Control pitta dosha in this way

First of all, it is very important to find out the cause of the Pitta Dosha imbalance and stay away from it. Apart from this, many methods have been described in Patanjali to balance the Pitta.

Therapeutic Purgation

Virechana or therapeutic purgation is the best way to control the aggravated pitta. Pitta initially accumulates in the stomach and small intestine and virechana reaches these areas and reduces the accumulated pitta. Virechana is an Ayurvedic detoxification procedure, which uses medicinal substances to remove toxins from the body.

Meditation

Meditation is very beneficial for physical and mental health. It helps in concentrating and calming the mind and also cools the body, which can help in reducing bile and its heat.

What to eat to balance Pitta

To balance the bile, it is necessary to make many changes in the diet. For this, many types of foods can be included in the diet. Ghee can be consumed regularly. It has a cooling effect on the body and many properties are found in it, which help a lot in keeping the bile balanced. Apart from this, oily and smooth substances can also be helpful in this. Actually, many types of medicinal properties are found in ghee. Therefore, it can be used in different ways. Pitta can be reduced by consuming aloe vera juice, sprouted grains, salad and porridge. Avoid doing too much physical exertion or going out in the sun as bile can increase due to heat. Watch the sunset, sit in the moonlight, spend time in nature on the banks of lakes and flowing water and in the cool breeze.
