Why did the violence happen in Haldwani? The immediate response to this was due to bulldozer action on structures like illegal madrassas and mosques. But now it starts smelling of conspiracy. After Nainital DM Vandana Singh, now state DGP Abhinav Kumar has also said about a conspiracy. After reaching Haldwani and preliminary investigation, the DGP has said that there is a conspiracy behind the way the attack was carried out, which is being investigated. Talking about strict action against the accused, he has asked for imposition of NSA.
The DGP, who reached Haldwani along with the Chief Secretary and ADG in the morning, talked to the officials and also visited violence-hit Banbhulpura. After this, while talking to the media, he said, ‘The administration had gone to remove the encroachment on the orders of the court. The way the angry mob there attacked the police and pelted stones. Petrol bombs were thrown, arson was done, illegal weapons were also fired. From this we clearly felt that this was carried out in a very planned manner. Curfew is in place there, the situation is normal at present.
The DGP said that the first priority is to lift the curfew restrictions. When asked whether it was just a reaction to the removal of the madrassa or a planned conspiracy, the DGP said, ‘The way the crowd gathered, the speed with which they gathered, the kind of preparation. Certainly there seems to be some planning behind this, there seems to be some conspiracy. We are investigating this. The culprits will be identified and action will be taken.
The DGP said that those who pelted stones and attacked the police would be identified and strict action would be taken. He said that strictest action will be taken and a case will be registered under NSA. He said that with the imposition of curfew the situation has come under control to a great extent.
Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Radha Raturi said, ‘We will first study the entire situation thoroughly and then see what are its legal points. If any action is taken against the government, action will be taken against whoever is guilty in it. We will give detailed information to the Chief Minister after fully studying the situation. Strictest action will be taken against the rioters.
