New Delhi: Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently shared a personal aspect of his life, revealing that he feels the absence of not having a biological child with his wife, actor-politician Kirron Kher. In an emotional and honest confession, Anupam explained that this feeling didn’t hit him until later in life but has grown stronger in the past few years.
In a candid interview with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Anupam talked about missing the experience of watching a child grow up. “I didn’t feel it that much before, but now, sometimes, I do feel like it,” he said. He noted that this realization came after he turned 50, saying, “In the last seven-eight years, it has become more apparent. It’s not like I’m unhappy with Sikander, but I think it’s a joy to watch your own child grow.”
Why Anupam Kher never had a child?
In earlier interviews, Anupam Kher had mentioned that he and Kirron tried to conceive a child but were unsuccessful, despite seeking medical help. The actor was previously married to Madhumati Kapoor, and Kirron was married to Gautam Berry before they tied the knot.
Notably, the Karma actor has been a father figure to Sikander Kher, Kirron’s son from her previous marriage, for decades. He clarified that his longing for a biological child has nothing to do with his bond with Sikander. “What my father was to me, I am to him. But to say I don’t miss having a child of my own would be a lie,” he said.
Anupam Kher’s candid confession
Anupam also reflected on how his busy career in Bollywood kept him occupied for most of his life, making it easier to overlook this feeling. “I was extremely busy working. But after I hit 50-55, I started feeling the void. Kirron became busy, and so did Sikander,” he explained. “It’s not a tragedy in my life, but sometimes, I do think it would have been nice.”
The actor’s foundation, The Anupam Kher Foundation, works with children, which often reminds him of the joys of parenthood. “When I see my friends’ children or the kids we work with at my foundation, I sometimes miss having children of my own,” he said. However, Anupam reiterated that it’s not a sense of loss, but rather an occasional feeling that he has come to accept.
