Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand has taken a chilly turn, with rainfall and falling temperatures affecting many areas. Kedarnath and Yamunotri are experiencing cold conditions due to continuous rain, while Kumaon division is also receiving showers.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that this weather will continue for the next two days, warning of possible thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms in some regions.
Red alert issued for Uttarkashi
A red alert has been issued for Uttarkashi on May 7 and 8, with forecasts of heavy rain, hailstorm, and winds reaching speeds of 70 kmph. Authorities have advised locals and travelers to remain cautious, as storms could cause disruptions and difficult travel conditions.
Rainfall across many districts
Since Sunday night, many areas, including Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Pauri, have seen intermittent rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds. By Monday afternoon, skies turned cloudy, leading to moderate rainfall in places like Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, Gopeshwar, and Dehradun. In Dehradun and Mussoorie, heavy rain began around 4 PM, lasting for nearly half an hour. Rainfall measured 7.9 mm in Dehradun over the past 12 hours, significantly dropping temperatures.
Temperature drops across the state
The maximum temperature in Dehradun fell to 31.8°C, which is three degrees below normal, while Mukteshwar recorded 15.1°C, which is nine degrees below normal. Other areas also saw lower-than-usual temperatures, making the weather pleasant yet unpredictable. On Monday, some areas of the hill districts had light sunshine till 12 noon. But from 4 pm onwards, dark clouds covered the sky and after some time, it rained with strong winds. During this period, light to moderate rain occurred in areas like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, Gopeshwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, Doiwala and Tehri.

Authorities have urged travelers and locals to be prepared for cold and wet conditions, especially in high-altitude areas like Kedarnath and Yamunotri. Those visiting Uttarkashi should stay alert due to the red alert warnings and follow weather updates and official advisories.
