Weather department issues orange alert for 12 districts in Bengal including Kolkata, city may face water-logging problem

New Delhi: The weather department has issued orange alert for Kolkata as it estimates heavy rainfall will batter the city. Due to incessant rainfall, many parts of the city may face the problem of water-logging.

For the past few days, the sky in Bengal has been cloudy due to the formation of a low pressure area. Although there has been occasional drizzle, Kolkata has not experienced the same level of rainfall as other districts in the state. However, that is probably going to change. On May 28, the Meteorological Office had predicted an increase in rainfall.

According to the forecast of the Alipore Meteorological Office, a disaster-like situation is practically at hand due to the formation of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal. Rather this time, there is a threat of a very deep depression. The depression will enter the coast of Bengal and Bangladesh by noon on May 29. The very deep depression will enter the land via the Sundarbans. Right now, a low pressure is currently 130 kilometers away from Digha. It will enter the land through Sagardwip and Khepupara.

Orange alert for Kolkata

An orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued in Kolkata today. Heavy rain is also predicted for tomorrow. There is a risk of flooding if there is heavy rain during high tide. There will be gusty winds and the speed can reach a maximum of 40 km per hour in the city.

Apart from Kolkata, an orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued for eleven other districts for today. These Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, East Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia. The rains will be accompanied by gusty winds with a maximum speed of 60 km per hour. Heavy to very heavy rain will continue on Friday.

North Bengal will not be spared either and there is a forecast of heavy rain in that region as well. According to the Meteorological Office, there will be heavy rain in all districts of North Bengal tomorrow, May 30. However, very heavy rain is predicted in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. And for that reason, an orange alert has been issued in these three districts. According to meteorologists, there will be extremely heavy rain in Alipurduar on Friday. And for that reason, a red alert has been issued for this district.
