Poor snowfall in Kashmir valley is already a matter of concern. It is reported that this also affected the strategy of the Indian Army and the soldiers are on alert mode. However, nothing has been officially said by the army regarding this. It is being said that the army is deploying soldiers on a large scale to stop infiltration. Generally, incidents of infiltration reduce during snowfall.
According to reports, activities are difficult amid snowfall and that is why infiltration from across the LoC or Line of Control reduces. The army usually deployed troops in counter-terrorism operations as part of winter tactics. “However, this did not happen this year and anti-infiltration operations remain the same as in summer,” an official was quoted as saying. According to the report, sources said that due to lack of heavy snowfall, all infiltration routes have opened even in winter and infiltration is continuing. He said that there is also intelligence that a large number of terrorists are active near the LoC.
Terrorists get trapped in the cold
It is said that during winter, terrorists also come out of their hideouts at high altitude and move towards settlements. Now due to this, the possibilities of intelligence operations and terrorists being surrounded increases. An official was quoted as saying, ‘Also, snowfall makes it difficult for terrorists to carry goods and they become more dependent on the population.’ He further said, ‘They depend on the roads for any activity. In such a situation, the chances of them colliding at the mobile check post also increases. In the year 2023, a total of 71 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 52 were killed by the security forces in the valley.
