‘We won’t tolerate nuclear blackmail anymore’: PM Modi in first address to nation after India-Pakistan ceasefire | Key takeaways

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday night addressed the nation for the first time since a ceasefire agreement halted the almost 100-hour military confrontation between India and Pakistan.

During his emphatic speech, PM Modi commended the exemplary courage of the Indian armed forces and condemned the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam. He stated that the terrorists’ brutality called for “strong action” against those behind the attack.

Here are top quotes from his address to the nation:

1. We gave full freedom to the Indian army to annihilate the terrorists and today every terrorist, every terror organisation knows ‘ki hamari behano, betiyon ke maathe se Sindoor hatane ka anjaam kya hota hai’.

3. On May 7, the whole world witnessed our resolve translate into action. We targeted their training camps… they never imagined India would hit back. But when Indian missiles and drones struck Pakistan, the very foundations of these terrorist groups were shaken. They wiped the sindoor off our sisters — we wiped out their bases.

4. In the past few days, we all have seen the nation’s strength and restraint. I salute the armed forces, the military, our intelligence agencies, and our scientists.

5. Terror and talks cannot go together. Terror and trade cannot go hand in hand. Water and blood can never flow together.

6. India will hold no discussion with Pakistan on the Jammu and Kashmir issue – except to demand the return of Pak-occupied Kashmir.

7. If terrorists attack, there will be a befitting reply, and India will respond on its our terms.

8. We won’t tolerate nuclear blackmail anymore.

9. The three armies of India – Air Force, Navy, and Army, BSF and military forces — are on high alert. Operation Sindoor is India’s policy against terrorism. Operation Sindoor has shown a new normal against terrorism.

10. India has only paused retaliation against the terrorist and military bases of Pakistan and has not ended it.
