‘We are creating bad precedent’: Why Jagdeep Dhankhar lost his cool

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 11am on Monday amidst continuous uproar by opposition members. Amid the commotion, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed strong displeasure over the disruptions, criticising members for failing to uphold the dignity of the House.

“This is not appreciated. I express my deep anguish. We are creating a very bad precedent. We are dishonouring the people of this country. We are not meeting their expectations,” Dhankhar said, voicing concerns about the conduct of the House.

He added, “Our actions are not people-centric; they are to absolute public distaste. We are becoming irrelevant and have virtually become a laughing stock.” The protests disrupted proceedings and prevented the upper house from functioning smoothly, prompting the adjournment.

Meanwhile, similar scenes unfolded in the Lok Sabha, which was also adjourned until Monday amid continued demonstrations by opposition members.
