Bhopal: In an unusual turn of events, a dog was trapped in a cage set up by forest department officials to catch jackals in the Bairagarh area of Bhopal. The forest department had placed cages in the Borvan locality due to the growing fear of jackals in the vicinity, leading to restrictions on people’s movement. Rising water levels in the large lake have submerged a huge portion of the forest, forcing wildlife, including about eight jackals, into residential areas.
After a video of the jackals went viral among local residents, panic spread, prompting the forest department to intensify their efforts. Currently, two trap cameras and two cages have been deployed in the area to capture the animals.
Wolves’ attack in UP
Meanwhile in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched ‘Operation Bhediya’ to capture a group of six wolves that have been causing terror in 50 villages in the Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district.
Out of the six wolves, five have been successfully captured, but efforts are ongoing to catch the last wolf, which is believed to be the leader of the pack. “The last wolf could be the alpha, and as long as it’s at large, the problem might continue. However, it’s expected that it will be caught soon,” an official said this week.
To track the remaining wolf, 165 forest personnel and 18 shooters have been deployed. The operation is being supported by drones equipped with thermal cameras and snap cameras. Apart from that, the district administration and forest department have installed solar and high-mast lights in open areas and villages to enhance safety and aid the search efforts.
