New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) is launching a campaign called ‘Jagran Abhiyan’ to demand the liberation of Hindu temples from government control, the outfit’s spokesperson Vinod Bansal announced on Thursday.

The campaign will begin from January 5, 2025. “The call for this all-Bharat campaign will be given in a special and huge gathering of lakhs of people called ‘Haindava Shankhaaraavam’ to be organized in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh,” the VHP said in a post on X.

“We also reached out to approximately 380 MPs during the winter session, seeking their assistance,” he said.

Contending their demand, Bansal said none of the mosques churches and madrassas in India come under the government’s control but there are many Hindu temples that are controlled by various state governments and the governments misuse the temples for corrupt practices.

“So, the people of the Hindu community are upset over it… The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded many times earlier also to free temples from the control of government. Today, we will launch a massive campaign for public awareness,” he added.

VHP’s Saansad Sampark Abhiyan

Earlier, the VHP launched its ‘Saansad Sampark Abhiyan’ during which it engaged with over 350 MPs to discuss several key issues, including the liberation of temples, the Waqf Amendment Bill, and extending privileges to Hindu society.

“Vishva Hindu Parishad has reached out to more than 350 MPs through its annual Saansad Sampark Abhiyan during the winter session of Parliament, focusing on three major topics concerning Hindu society,” the VHP said in a post on X.

Bajrang Lal Bagra, Secretary General of Vishva Hindu Parishad, explained that during the campaign, Karyakartas from various states, languages, and sects engaged with MPs on issues like freeing temples from government control, the Waqf Amendment Bill, and extending minority privileges under Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution to Hindus as well.

The campaign ran from December 2 to 20, coinciding with the winter session of Parliament.
