Uttarakhand’s Astro Tourism Campaign ‘Nakshatra Sabha’ second event held at Jageshwar

Jageshwar: Nakshatra Sabha, an Astro Tourism campaign by Starscapes and the Uttarakhand Tourism Board, organised their second event in Jageshwar, Uttarakhand, between 4-6 October, following the success of its first event at George Everest, Mussoorie in June this year.

This second event witnessed participation from astronomy enthusiasts, adventurers, and travellers from across India. The event has been sold out with more than 100 participants coming from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai besides Delhi / NCR.

This event was inaugurated by renowned astronomers and scholars

This second event saw the presence of renowned astronomers and was inaugurated by renowned scientists Shylaja B and Dr. T V Venkateswaran. Shylaja is known for her expertise in Indian astronomical history and celestial events. Whereas, Dr. Venkateswaran, a senior scientist, has over two-decade long experience in science communication, making complex scientific concepts accessible to the public.

Nakshatra Sabha is a year-long campaign to be held at various locations

This joint venture of state tourism department and Starscapes company, Nakshatra Sabha is a year-long campaign running until mid-2025, featuring a series of events at various locations across Uttarakhand, including Benital, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and the famous Kartikeya Swamy temple at Rudraprayag. Since, these places have its unique significance to watch astronomical activities in the dark sky, these locations for Nakshatra Sabha are carefully chosen to give astronomy enthusiasts a new experience. Jageshwar is home to over 100 ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and other deities.

Jageshwar will now also be known for stargazing and Astro-tourism activities

Ramashish Ray, Founder of Starscapes, said, “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to our events at both the places in Mussoorie and Jageshwar. Now we aim to make astronomy and the cosmos easily accessible and an experience for the tourists so they can remember it for a lifetime.
