Temperature drops as rain brings relief

The latest data from the Meteorological Department reveals that temperatures have dropped significantly due to continuous rainfall. Dehradun’s temperature has decreased by 8 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat. In Lohar Khet, rainfall reached 75 mm in a day, making it one of the wettest locations in the region. Areas such as Kathgodam, Pokhari, and Dhari also reported heavy showers.

In several high-altitude locations, the mercury has dropped to just 10 degrees Celsius, creating cool and mildly cold conditions in the mornings and evenings. The maximum temperature recorded in Udham Singh Nagar was 31.6 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 21.4 degrees Celsius, while Mukteshwar saw temperatures as low as 10.4 degrees Celsius. In New Tehri, the temperature fluctuated between 17.5 degrees (max) and 12.2 degrees Celsius (min), highlighting the impact of persistent rains across the state.

Impact on travel and Char Dham yatra

The ongoing weather fluctuations have affected movement along the Char Dham Yatra routes, with heavy rains increasing the risks of landslides and slippery roads. Pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri have been advised to proceed with caution and stay updated on weather conditions.

In response to the yellow alert, local authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in hilly regions where the risk of landslides remains high. Disaster management teams are closely monitoring conditions and issuing alerts for affected areas.

Weather forecast for the coming days

As per the latest forecast, rain and thunderstorms will persist till May 26, with hilly regions continuing to experience heavy showers and hailstorms. Meteorologists attribute this prolonged spell of rain to western disturbances, which have brought moisture-laden winds to Uttarakhand. Officials have confirmed that the monsoon is expected to enter the state soon, stabilizing weather conditions after the ongoing turbulent spell. Until then, residents and tourists are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions during their travels.
