Yellow alert issued for heavy rain & Strong Winds

A yellow alert has been issued for Nainital, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar, warning of heavy showers and strong winds. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely in these districts. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise caution, especially in mountainous areas, where landslides and road disruptions could occur due to heavy rainfall.

With weather patterns remaining unpredictable, authorities urge residents to stay updated on forecasts and take necessary precautions. The next few days will see fluctuating conditions, with rainfall expected to continue intermittently across Uttarakhand. As the monsoon season approaches, the state government remains vigilant, ensuring that both residents and farmers receive necessary support amid changing weather conditions.

Impact on agriculture: Compensation for crop damage

The unseasonal rain and hailstorm have caused significant damage to crops, prompting the Uttarakhand government to announce compensation for affected farmers. During a review meeting, Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi directed officials to monitor the damage daily and submit reports to the Ministry. He assured farmers that compensation will be provided soon, following Central Government guidelines. So far, hailstorms have damaged crops across 5,236 hectares of agricultural land, with 3,358 hectares suffering more than 33% damage. The state government has pledged support, ensuring that farmers receive financial aid during this crisis.
