While some relief is expected in the form of rain in five hilly districts, the plains continue to experience intense heat and humidity, making conditions uncomfortable for residents.

After an initial spell of pleasant weather in early May, temperatures have started climbing again across the state. Major cities like Dehradun, Roorkee, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Kashipur have witnessed a steady rise in temperature, causing discomfort both during the day and night.

Heatwave returns to Uttarakhand

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was recorded at 36.8°C, while Pantnagar touched 39.4°C. According to forecasts from the Meteorological Department, temperatures may rise further in the coming days, especially in the lower-lying areas of the state.

Rain and thunder expected in five districts

While the plains remain dry, weather experts predict light rain with thunderstorms in several hilly districts, including Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Dr. Bikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Center in Dehradun, stated that starting May 15, most parts of Uttarakhand will experience dry and hot conditions, with only certain mountainous regions receiving scattered rainfall.

Additionally, there is a forecast of strong winds in Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag, which could reach speeds of 40-50 km per hour, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm activity.

Dehradun’s weather forecast

The sky in Dehradun is expected to remain clear, with no immediate relief from the heat. The maximum temperature may hover around 37°C, while the minimum could be around 22°C.

Meteorologists warn that the next few days could see a further rise in temperatures, making it critical for people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The bright sunshine, particularly in Haridwar, Roorkee, and Rishikesh, has increased the temperature rapidly, leading to higher humidity levels in the region.

Yellow alert issued for thunderstorms and dust storms

Authorities have issued a yellow alert for lightning and dust storms in Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag, warning that wind speeds could reach up to 50 km per hour. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak hours and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun.

Rising temperatures cause concern

With the mercury steadily rising, health experts are urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities, especially during the afternoon hours when temperatures peak. Farmers and traders in the plains have raised concerns over the impact of excessive heat on crops and daily business activities. The tourism industry, particularly in Char Dham pilgrimage routes, is closely monitoring weather conditions to ensure safe travel for devotees.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, stay informed, and follow official weather warnings to avoid discomfort and health hazards during this peak summer season in Uttarakhand.
