In Dehradun, the morning started with rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, briefly bringing relief from the heat before humidity increased. The Meteorological Center in Dehradun has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and strong winds across several regions, warning travelers and locals to remain cautious.

Morning showers in Dehradun & impact on daily life

Early today, Dehradun woke up to scattered rain showers, momentarily reducing heat levels before cloud cover began dissipating by midday. Thunderstorms added intensity to the rainfall in some areas, with gusty winds making conditions unstable. However, as the day progressed, humidity returned, leading to discomfort for residents. The IMD has forecast continued rain, but warned that winds could pick up speed between 40-60 km/h, particularly in Dehradun and surrounding areas.

Cool weather in hills, heat persists in plains

While light to moderate rain refreshed the mountain regions, some areas faced challenges due to excessive rainfall. Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Almora, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh saw periods of steady rain, leading to slippery roads and waterlogging. In contrast, the plains—including Haridwar, Roorkee, and Udham Singh Nagar—continued to experience intense heat, with temperatures rising above normal despite mild cloud cover.

Kedarnath yatra impact & pilgrim safety measures

Pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath Dham were advised to exercise caution as rain and cold temperatures intensified along the route. Officials have strengthened monitoring from Guptkashi to Kedarnath. Fog and intermittent rain have made trekking conditions challenging. Pilgrims are being guided carefully to prevent weather-related obstacles. The District Disaster Management Officer confirmed that heavy rainfall could continue today, making it essential for pilgrims to check weather conditions before proceeding.

Precautions & advisories

Authorities have advised: Avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Pilgrims should be cautious near rivers and drain-fed routes. Prepare for strong winds affecting plains and elevated areas. Uttarakhand’s weather remains volatile, requiring monitoring until May 24.
