Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for mountainous regions, warning of intense showers, thunderstorms, and lightning in the coming days.

Rainfall & changing weather conditions

Amid forecasts for rains and thunderstorms in most of the areas, clouds have spread across the state, from the mountains to the plains, leading to sporadic rainfall in several areas. On Wednesday afternoon, Dehradun and Haridwar witnessed heavy showers, cooling temperatures and reducing humidity levels. However, the rainfall also caused damage, with trees falling in Haridwar, disrupting power supply in some areas. In Raiwala, a high-voltage transmission line broke due to a fallen tree, affecting electricity flow to Meerut for several hours.

Temperature drop & relief from heat

The weather shift brought significant relief from the humid heat that had gripped the state. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature dropped to 34°C, while Jolly Grant recorded 50 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state over the last 24 hours. Haridwar also saw strong winds accompanying heavy showers, leading to damage to nearby shops and disruptions in daily activities.

Yellow alert & forecast for coming days

According to Meteorological Center, Dehradun, Director Bikram Singh, pre-monsoon showers are expected to intensify in the coming days. The forecast predicts heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, and Nainital, with thunderstorms and lightning posing risks in Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar. Authorities have urged residents and travelers to exercise caution, especially in mountainous areas, where landslides and road disruptions could occur due to heavy rainfall.

Impact on Char Dham Yatra & tourism

The changing weather has also affected Char Dham Yatra routes, with partial cloud cover and light showers recorded in pilgrimage areas. Pilgrims are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and prepare for fluctuating conditions. With pre-monsoon rains expected to intensify, residents are advised to prepare for unstable weather and follow official advisories. The next few days will bring a mix of sunshine, cloud cover, and intermittent showers, keeping Uttarakhand’s weather dynamic and unpredictable.
