Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth detailed the extensive measures during a press briefing at the Yatra Transit Camp in Rishikesh.

Comprehensive Deployment of Security Forces

Nearly 6,000 police personnel, along with 17 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and 10 companies of paramilitary forces, have been strategically deployed across the Char Dham yatra routes. These routes, leading to the sacred shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, are expected to welcome millions of devotees over the coming months.

To address the challenges posed by the Himalayan terrain, personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be stationed at over 65 accident-prone areas, ready to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies. The DGP emphasized that these deployments aim not only to enhance security but also to ensure smooth traffic movement, minimizing inconvenience for pilgrims.

Enhanced Vigilance Post-Pahalgam Incident

The Pahalgam terror attack has heightened security awareness across Uttarakhand, prompting authorities to exercise extra caution during the yatra. The Uttarakhand Police remains on high alert, with active surveillance along key transit points, Dham peripheries, and crowded areas.

DGP Seth stated, “The safety of pilgrims is our top priority. We have collaborated with central and state agencies to bolster intelligence networks, maintain vigil, and respond swiftly to any threats. Additional security has been arranged at sensitive locations to ensure a peaceful pilgrimage.”

Managing Traffic and Crowd Control

With an anticipated surge in pilgrims, the state has also implemented traffic management measures to prevent congestion along the narrow and often treacherous yatra routes. Dedicated personnel have been assigned to manage parking areas and regulate vehicular movement, ensuring that the pilgrimage progresses efficiently.

Confidence in the Arrangements

Pilgrims embarking on the Char Dham Yatra have expressed gratitude for the government’s proactive approach to their safety. Authorities have urged travelers to remain vigilant, adhere to official guidelines, and cooperate with security personnel.
