Uttarakhand seeks inclusion of Yoga, Karate in National Games with seven new sports

Dehradun: Uttarakhand, which hosts national games 2025, has requested the union sports minister Mansukh Mandavia to include seven new sports- Yogasan, Powerlifting, Speed Climbing, Karate, and Lagori- in the national games. Highlighting these sports as a part of the state’s sports culture, Uttarakhand sports minister Rekha Arya underlined the need for their inclusion in the national sports games.

Sports minister Arya also expressed her gratitude to the union minister Mandavia for giving approval to host the national games 2025 in Uttarakhand during her meeting with the union sports minister in New Delhi on Thursday.

IOA has given approval for holding 32 sports

The national games 2025, beginning from January 28, 2025, will be concluded on February 14. Indian Olympic Association has given its approval for holding 32 sports in the national games 2025.

Give final touch to the preparation by the end of December 31

Uttarakhand sports minister Arya has directed the authorities to give final touch to the preparation for the national games by the end of December 31. She held a meeting with the officials concerned at the national sports secretariat and discussed different points relating to the national games 2025.

Constitution of a committee for holding camps of every sports

The sports department has constituted a committee for holding the camps of all the sports. The committee will select the players who will participate in the national games 2025. The committee accommodates functionaries of the sports concerned, former players, officers of the sports department. The sports department has already appointed coaches, assistance coaches and others for the training camps.

Process for selection of players to begin soon

The process for the selection of players will soon begin. The department has appointed One head coach, one assistant coach and one conditioning coach for every sport. About 20 players will attend the training camps of every sport.

Meanwhile, the director of Indian Sports Authority’s Khelo India Amar Jyoti inspected the watersports centre near the Tehri lake as a part of the preparation for national games 2025. He collected information from the officials concerned about the water sports centre.
